Water quality worsening while Georgia water protection is shrinking

State impaired waters increased by nearly 30% in the last ten years, meaning that water quality for drinking, swimming, and fishing is significantly worsenening.


Despite this, budgeting for water protection at Georgia DNR's Environmental Protection Division has not kept pace with inflation, and regulatory staffing shortages are chronic.
